Short Stand Proud Outer Bearing and Water Lubricated Gland.

This sterntube assembly is used where the shaft length is such that an intermediate bearing is required and where the distance between the deadwood and the forward face of the rudder prohibits the use of the water scoop type outer bearings. It comprises a short stand proud outer bearing, a bronze spacer tube and a water lubricated gland assembly with half bearing.

The bearings are lubricated by water, usually supplied from the engine cooling system. This is injected into the sterntube through the inboard gland.

Water Scoop Outer Bearing and Inboard Flexible Gland Assembly

This Sterntube assembly is used where the engine is flexibly mounted and an intermediate bearing is not required. It comprises of a spacer tube, a water scoop outer bearing and an inboard flexible gland assembly. The bearing is lubricated by water supplied from the engine cooling system. This is injected into the sterntube through the inboard flexible gland.
