The GRP tube is dogged to suit the flexible gland thus preventing hose twist should the gland be over-tightened.
This type of sterntube is designed for applications where an intermediate bearing is required between the ‘P’ bracket and gearbox half coupling. It can also be used as a conventional sterntube on single screw applications but care must be taken not to let the aft bearing protrude too far from the deadwood of the vessel.
This GRP sterntube assembly should be water lubricated by means of a bleed off from the engine cooling system through the injection point provided at the gland. When installing this type of sterntube into the vessel, advice should be sought from the boatbuilder or the naval architect as to the method and weight of the layup.
