Zinc Anodes

Metals with different electrical potential in contact with each other within an electrolyte (sea water) form galvanic cells. The metal with the lowest potential will become the anode and will corrode. All boats operating in salt or even fresh water are exposed to galvanic corrosion and the effects can be costly.

The symptoms of galvanic corrosion are typically seen as pitting of propellers, rudders, struts and shafts, but can in result in the complete failure of a component.

To protect the underwater hardware at risk from galvanic corrosion, a metal with a lower potential should be fixed to these parts and on the hull in the area of the stern.

Teignbridge supplies a large range of anodes, including cone nut anodes.
